I got my Dreaming of Spring Mini Quilt in the mail today.

How exciting,  I opened my package from Barbra Perez and out tumbled a lovley postcard, key chain and memento from Disney World + a lovely pattern for a phone wristlet.  Thanks so much Barbra.  Wow it looks like you had a very hectic few weeks there with your move.    I did check out your new store Pine Needles @ Gardner Village and also your Blog Busy Bee Quilter.  Very nice.  I love the mini quilt pattern and I love your Label the best.

It’s Raining outside!

Now I really know it’s spring, its raining cats’ and dogs’ outside.  I love it. It was a little cool today and really warm yesterday.  I began my day cleaning my front porch and noticed my neighbors had a garage sale again today but they closed up at noon due to the cold weather just in time to avoid the rain… It will be good to see more green grass and my new plants do need watering.  What are you doing today?  I enjoyed reading all the comments from my Spring is for the Birds Day on Tuesday.  Thank you all for coming over to visit me.  I do hope you will come back.Spring is for the Birds

It’s my day today and boy! has this spring not been for the birds

This spring not been for the birds here in western Wisconsin.  Until this past week.  I am sitting here writing with the window open and can hear the Robins in my back yard singing and chirping away, a welcome sound indeed.  It finally has become SPRING but it took a while.   Here is the Schedule for Its for the Birds

April 19th we had such a horrid snow storm just as the birds were returning.

That day is was windy, rainy, snow, ice mixture.  the poor birds were flying from tree to tree to roof tops and back just trying to keep their wings from freezing.  this continued the whole day and finally into the night it turned to snow.  I was so glad to wake the next morning to see snow on the trees, at least a shelter from the storm could be found.  After it started to warm a bit and the snow melted I could see the crows outside picking at stuff in the grass.  Dead birds I suppose.  I wasn’t to sad to see another snow come down by mid day to cover up the poor dead little ones.

Next came May with it’s own winter storm.  I awoke on May 2nd to 7+ inches of snow on the ground, wet and heavy.  Many of the trees were bent to the ground heavy laden with snow.

That day I was to meet my ASG (American Sewing Guild)  group for a bus trip to Nancy’s Notions weekend.  I was 20 min late but the bus came 45 min later so I guess I was early.  I had refused to wear my winter coat and boots IN MAY! choosing to layer warmly and take my raincoat.  That was a good move because it was raining in Beaver Dam.  I was so thankful the bus driver was driving and not me, as he said “There would have been a lot of no shows for this Trip.”

I even had the opportunity to have my picture taken with Nancy Zieman.  I have been watching her show for 25+ years.

I am finally finished with my Spring Quilt and I did like the results.  I did some FMQ on this and am getting better at it as I go along.  Still I do have a way to go to be satisfied with my results but I am going to put a label on the back and send it off to my Dreaming of Spring Mini Quilt Swap Partner.  I will post the full picture of it in a week so I don’t give away the surprise before she receives it.  Your can view my progress on Flickr.

Thank you Madam Samm and our cheerleader Mary from I Piece 2 Mary for coordinating this blog hop and cheerleadering us all on!

Here is the list of bloggers for today so head over and enjoy this blogging day.

Yesterday I retruned from a Nancy’s Notions Sewing Weekend.

Here I am in Beaver Dam WI with Nancy Zieman at her warehouse

It has been quite a week for me.  On Monday Spent the Afternoon with a friend & then on Wednesday I went to Grandparent’s day at my Granddaughter’s, Echo & Ruthie’s, School in the early morning then Got a Haircut  & then I went into St Paul for my Infusion Therapy! came home and played cards with my friends and said farewell to a crafting buddy because she is moving to Ohio.  Then on Thursday I met my Sewing Buddies from my Minn/St Paul ASG Guild and took a bus trip to Nancy’s Notions Sewing Weekend!  Wow what a way to end my week.  We rode out to Beaver Dam WI in all that snow and I was so glad that I was not driving.  We all arrived safely thanks to the skillful driving of our bus driver.  I enjoyed Shopping, taking Classes and Seminars and even got to Meet Nancy Zieman and Mary Malari in person.

A Friday Finish and a peek at my WIP “For the Birds”

This week was spent working on my “Spring is for the Birds” quilted wall hanging.  I am doing FMQ on my quilt top today.  Yesterday I finished a Zippered Pouch.  and cut out material to make a smaller zippered purse.  It is quite here at home.  Outside the snow is coming down fiercely, almost blizzard like with the wind whipping it up.  I have my music video from Ireland on and am enjoying the peaceful music as I blog.  My driveway is covered in several inches of snow and ice, unplowed.  I am hoping that the promised sunshine and 39 degree weather will help to melt it.  I was going to go to SR Harris with my sewing buddies from my ASG Group but I am snow bound at the moment and this trip will have to wait for better days. Below is my Finish for the week for me and a peek at a WIP.  See more pictures here.

Progress on my Civil War Sampler Quilt.

Today I finished 2 more Blocks for my Civil War Quilt.  Two Album Blocks – one red and one green.  At 1st I was confused as to how to put them together but once I looked at the picture and broke it down I was able to finish them fairly quickly.  I now have the civil war pinwheels done (all 23 of them), the Ohio star & the Baltimore  Album Block (the applique has been ironed on and I am finishing it up with hand embroidery) and the 2 Album Blocks.  I am pleased with each of these blocks.  I Can’t wait till Thursday When I go to my Club meeting where I will continue to work on my Sampler Quilt.

April Already????

On my Ironing board today

MeadowLark Row Quilt on my Ironing Board.

Meadowlark row quilt center panel

Trapunto and surface quilting techniques were used on this center panel of my MeadowLark Row Quilt

Wow! April already! Where did March go? I woke up this am with the realization that my March Finish still wasn’t done.  Oh my.  With that I promised myself my March finish will get done today!!!  so I promptly went to my sewing studio.  pulled out the the 5 rows of my Meadowlark Quilt top and squared them and then sewed them together.  Above is my top ready to be ironed and readied for borders.  I used Trapunto and surface quilting on my center panel before setting it into the quilt top.  Wow I am almost ready for my borders which will be sewn on before the end of today.   So My April Finish will be to quilt this top.  I am already planning on how I want to quilt this top.  Wow it has taken me almost 3 months but this quilt top will be done, quilted and bound by the end of this month….. I am making this promise to myself

Update. Well here it is the end of the evening and I am ready to go to bed.  I have sewn on my 1st 2 borders. the Black and the crème and tomorrow I will finish up with my outer border.  (I would be done tonight but just had to take time out to watch “Dancing with the Stars” & “Castle”.)  My Monday eve treat to myself.

A Tutorial on making a Patchwork Journal Cover

Zippered Bags & Purses

This Morning I visited Rachel’s blog “Stitched in Color”  Zigzag Cover Tutorial and she had a tutorial on making a cute Patchwork Journal Cover.  This has inspired me – I think I will make these also for gifts for my grandchildren.  I know a few of the grandson’s love to write poetry and draw.  I think it would go well with some pens & pencils, Paint or sketching supplies.  I have a few grown up teenagers I could give these to – My older Granddaughter’s might appreciate them too as cute journals.  (I have 30 grandkids and 18 great grandkids of all ages) - have started making zippered bags for pens n pencils and other goodies already and have some cute plaid material that I got on my trip to Goodwill Saturday that would make great covers for the boy’s journals.  Wow I am so glad that I am getting a head start for Christmas gifts this year.  Thank you Rachel for your tutorial.  Now off to Walmart to buy some journals to cover.
